Transforming Norske Skog

2025 marks a pivotal year for Norske Skog with the completion of our largest investment since 1962: a EUR 320 million conversion project at our Golbey mill in France. This transformation repurposes a former newsprint line into PM1, a state-of-the-art packaging paper line, reinforcing our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and market diversification.

With an annual capacity of 550,000 tonnes, PM1 significantly strengthens Norske Skog’s position in the European packaging market. This milestone builds on the success of our Bruck mill with a production capacity of 210,000 tonnes of packaging paper since 2023. The strategic shift reduces our reliance on traditional newsprint while unlocking new opportunities for sustainable growth.

Zero absence injuries in the last year at Saugbrugs – safety first, always!

At Norske Skog Saugbrugs, a strong safety culture is more than a goal – it’s a way of working. The site has now gone for one year without any injuries causing absence, a significant achievement in a complex industrial environment with nearly 370 employees, including 30 apprentices.

Efficiency processes at Norske Skog

Norske Skog continues its efforts to increase revenue from the growing packaging market. At the same time, Norske Skog operates in the publication paper market with declining demand for parts of the group's product portfolio. The markets have been characterised by overcapacity and low margins for a long period, while the industry also experiences challenging framework conditions. Significant inflation in energy and raw material prices has put further pressure on profitability.

Norske Skog fortsetter arbeidet med å øke inntektene fra det voksende markedet for emballasje. Samtidig opererer Norske Skog i publikasjonspapirmarkedet med fallende etterspørsel for deler av konsernets produktportefølje. Markedene har i en lengre periode vært preget av overkapasitet og lave marginer, samtidig som industrien også opplever at rammevilkårene blir utfordret. Norske Skog Golbey start-up paves the way for future growth

Norske Skog reported an EBITDA of NOK 106 million in the second quarter of 2025 down from NOK 612 million in the previous quarter, mainly due to the final insurance settlement of NOK 560 million at Norske Skog Saugbrugs in the previous quarter. Despite continued challenges in the global pulp and paper markets and low industry utilisation rates, Norske Skog continues to increase its market share across publication and packaging paper segments and marked the successful start-up of containerboard production at Norske Skog Golbey PM1 in France.
